The government of Abia State has made it illegal for state employees to engage in commercial activity between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Joy Maduka, acting Head of Service, issued the directive during her first meeting with the inner office workers.
Everyone in management and staff at her office was invited to attend.
Maduka argued that in order to restore the service’s former splendor, the current administration must undertake a thorough overhaul and reform.
She urged employees to avoid acts of sabotage, dishonesty, and lack of discipline, and to instead strictly adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the public service.
The acting Head of Service reaffirmed Governor Otti’s stated commitment to enhancing the well-being of the workforce, saying that employees would regain their sense of dignity under the new administration.
Maduka stated that the government of Abia State will no longer tolerate disrespect for established authorities.
She also stressed that tardiness, idleness, and chitchat had no place in government employment.
Workers who spoke at the first meeting pledged to follow the HoS direction and expressed their commitment to helping the new administration improve the government and the country as a whole.
The correspondent’s investigation revealed that before the ban, several government buildings resembled makeshift markets as civil officials there sold goods to supplement their monthly pay, which they said were insufficient to meet their families’ requirements.
