Posted by In order to close the gap in digital skills between businesses and universities, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has reaffirmed its commitment to doing so.
This was announced by Sonny Echono, TETFund’s Executive Secretary, on Monday, 2023, in Abuja, during the Train the Trainer ICT Capacity Workshop for Beneficiary Institutions in the North Central Zone.
According to Echono, closing the digital skills gap is crucial for creating graduates who can compete on a global scale.
He claims that numerous gaps in our institutions have been exposed, including those relating to capacity building, internet access, electronic journals, database subscriptions, and many more.
He stressed the significance of digital technology in boosting research at the institutions that would ultimately benefit and the country as a whole.
Echono suggested that the Federal Government had established a policy as a baseline for education that all students must demonstrate competency in ICT before graduating.
He argued that computer literacy was crucial since India was unable to produce enough qualified workers to meet the needs of its 220 million citizens.
He also noted the necessity to bridge the gap between the capabilities graduates possess and those sought for by companies.
“Today’s reality provides a model from which to work. The vast majority of our workforce lacks these digital abilities, including the majority of our teachers, non-teachers, and managers.
According to him, “We are in TETFund to do our best to bridge that gap,” and if they succeed in making sure their students are technologically literate, it will make them more employable and open up more research opportunities.
