For breaking sanitation laws, the enforcement team of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has detained 106 residents in the state’s 13 local government areas.
During a news conference on Saturday, Yakubu Kwanta, the commissioner for environment and natural resources, revealed that 31 people had been detained in Akwanga, 21 in Lafia, 29 in Karu, 4 in Nassarawa-Eggon, 6 in Awe, 5 in Kokona, 7 in Keffi, and 3 in Obi.
The commissioner continued, in violation of section 9 (2) of the State Environmental cleanliness Law, the violators were doing private business while the cleanliness exercise was in progress.
In order to emphasize the gravity of following sanitation regulations and to serve as a deterrence to potential violators, Kwanta stated that the offenders were swiftly tried by mobile courts in their respective LGAs.
The commissioner applauded the temporary closure of many stores and commercial locations during the sanitation exercise while also expressing his happiness with the overall compliance shown by the inhabitants.
