Many thousands of Muslims in Adamawa State’s Hong Local Government Area have gathered to pray for rain.
Since the start of the rainy season, Hong LGA, which is located in the northern section of Adamawa State, has seen very little precipitation.
Residents of Yola, the state capital, have been complaining of heat that is comparable to that which may be expected in the ordinarily hot months of March through May, suggesting that the relative dryness in a supposedly wet season looks to be the reality in all of Adamawa State.
On Saturday, the Muslims of Hong met in an open area near the town council offices to pray for rain. This particular prayer is called Salatul Istiqa’a.
Sa’idu Garba, the Hong Central Mosque’s Deputy Chief Imam, led the prayer with Hong’s District Head Umar Mahmoud in attendance.
