The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has spoken out against the attack and attempted murder of Ikenga Ugochinyere, the spokesman for the Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP), in Akokwa, Imo State.

kuryaloaded reported earlier that a large group of gunmen thought to be assassins attacked Ikenga at his home in Akokwa, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State. His uncle and two other people were killed.

It was also said that the attackers set fire to some of the homes in his compound.

In response, COSEYL’s President General, Goodluck Ibem, said in a statement on Saturday that this is the second time that someone has tried to kill the CUPP spokesperson.

The coalition blamed the attack on politicians and called for the gunmen and those who helped them to be arrested right away.

In part, the statement says, “We strongly condemn the killing of these three people who did nothing wrong and should not have been killed so soon. When did it become a crime in Nigeria to take part in campaigns and the voting process?

“We ask the CUPP Spokesperson to stand firm for our democracy and not give up because the youths are solidly behind him and his plan to protect the democracy that our founding fathers fought so hard to get.

“We call on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, the DSS, and other security agencies to move quickly to arrest and prosecute those assassins who came to kill the People’s Voice Barr Ikenga Ugochinyere but ended up killing three innocent people who did nothing wrong to deserve such a brutal death.”
