Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in the next Kogi State election, has expressed concern over an alleged plan to have him killed by political heavy hitters in the state.

Ajaka, who was interviewed on Arise TV this past Thursday, claimed that he had contacted the DSS and other security organizations for help.

He claims that the secret police have informed him that the incident will be thoroughly investigated.

The SDP candidate has also claimed that the state administration is suppressing free expression by labeling as enemies of the state any citizens who do not vote for the candidate backed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The state government is the issue in Kogi, he remarked. They are suppressing people’s right to free expression and choice. Freedom of choice is at the heart of democracy.

The state government’s actions amount to coercion. They consider you an enemy if you do not back their candidate for governor.

Let everyone be allowed to advertise oneself or herself; I have contacted the police, the DSS, the NSA, and the president.

DSS has informed us that they are looking into the situation in the state and will get back to us once they have more information.
