After returning to Paris Saint-Germain following his success at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, striker Lionel Messi responded to receiving a guard of honor from his teammates and staff.
Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar last December under the leadership of Messi.
The 35-year-old also took home the Golden Ball trophy at the World Cup as the best player.
On Wednesday, the former Barcelona captain joined PSG again after a lengthy absence.
Messi was welcomed with open arms by his PSG colleagues and several of the staff members.
It’s interesting to note that Kylian Mbappe was not present when Messi made his comeback, despite Neymar being one of the first players to greet him.
As Messi entered the practice field for the first time in 2023, his teammates stood on either side of him.
In addition, PSG sporting director Luis Campos gave the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner a gold trophy with a star and his name on it to honor his FIFA World Cup triumph.
In response, Messi expressed his appreciation for the kind reception in a post on his Instagram account.
He added that he was eager to resume his club season with PSG.
“Many gratitude to my colleagues and all the club members for the welcome they gave me,” Messi wrote. We’re back and eager to keep achieving this season’s objectives with the @psg.”
