On Wednesday, a crisis struck the historic community of Ikare-Akoko in Ondo State’s Akoko North East Local Government Area when local teenagers participated in a free-for-all at a carnival.
Six or seven young people are alleged to have suffered significant injuries during the brutal brawl.
Sources claim that the long-standing rivalry between the two monarchs was what started the bloodshed.
Youths from the Iyometa neighborhood allegedly forbade teenagers from the Olukare side from entering the celebration area, which prompted the Olukare youths to retaliate by disrupting the New Year’s carnival.
Residents reportedly fled for safety when the teens allegedly opened fire on them.
There was a conflict when the Owa Ale people prevented the Olukare youths from using the location for the carnival on Tuesday, according to sources. The amount of shooting caused the town to become desolate.
“The teenagers organized for another attack this morning (Wednesday), and the shootings continue. Although several stores have been shut down, the police have stepped in.
Funmilayo Odunlami, a spokeswoman for the Ondo Police, confirmed the occurrence and said that the police were able to calm the situation and restore normalcy to the neighborhood.
