Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, has urged all local Christians to remain in close contact with one another in order to enhance their commitment to serving God and pursuing righteousness.
At the “The Brethren” annual Prayer and Praise Convocation, with the topic of “Engaging the Next Generation,” held at the Chapel of Grace, Benue People’s House, Makurdi, on January 2, 2023, he delivered the address.
Working together to help one another will provide Christians the chance to be “productive and bear fruits” while serving God, said Governor Ortom, who gave the keynote speech “Occupying the Public Space.”
The Governor referred to the two-day retreat’s subject as “appropriate and fitting,” highlighting the importance of “engaging the younger generation” in preventing the older generation from taking over. The retreat is an annual event of the Christian body.
“The next generation is not an easy task to face,” said Governor Ortom. Although they have entirely different passions, objectives, and goals, we nevertheless need to reunite them with the Lord and the path of holiness.
He stated that in order to accomplish the goal, “The Brethren” have commendably taken on prayers, evangelistic activity, and exemplary behaviour to ensure that they leave a lasting legacy.
The governor urged Christians in positions of authority, including politicians, clergy, and businesspeople, to always act in a way that reflects their faith in God and upholds the qualities of submission, love, honesty, justice, equity, and fairness.
In his earlier remarks, Joseph Antyo, president of “The Brethren,” noted that this year’s program stands out because it was the last while Ortom was serving as governor of Benue State. He also noted that the group’s “Prayer and Praise Convocation” has been a great source of inspiration and encouragement to members.
The goal of this year’s program, according to Antyo, is to ensure that members pass down the godly spiritual values they have learned to the younger generations. He noted that when Brethren members were teenagers, they didn’t have senior members to provide them with life guidance.
Evangelist Sunday Uguche warned that individuals who have made defrauding a way of life will not find favor in God’s sight to live successful lives in his message, which was titled “Minister, Stand Up, Stand Out: Follow Successful Men of God.”
