Residents of Ondo State’s Ose Local Government Area in Ijagba, Imoru, and Arimogija have raised alarm about the repeated attacks on their communities by people who are thought to be herdsmen.
In a message to the state administration titled “Save Our Soul,” residents of the communities—the majority of whom are farmers—claimed that marauders have been terrorizing their neighborhoods for more than two weeks, killing individuals and destroying property worth millions of naira.
According to a local neighbor who requested anonymity, the accused herdsmen frequently ruin farmlands.
He clarified that the herdsmen who frequently kidnap the residents and demand a ransom also intimidated them to stay away from their farms and plantations.
Hours after releasing a guy from captivity and receiving a ransom that was reduced from ten million to one million naira, they moved into a house and abducted a young girl.
This is having an impact on our primary source of income, farming.
According to the source, as a result of the situation, some residents of the communities have been forced to leave their homes and relocate to other communities and villages out of fear of coming under attack once more.
The state’s police public relations officer, Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, responded to a request for comment by stating that the command had not yet been briefed on the incidences.
She did, however, vow to send members from the force to the areas to assess the reality of the situation.
