On Monday, Francis Waive’s election as a two-term representative for the All Progressives Congress was overturned by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State.

Solomon Ahwinahwi, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, was proclaimed the winner of the federal election for the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu constituency on February 25 by the tribunal.

The tribunal further ruled that Mr. Jonathan Ukohdiko of the PDP should not be recognized as the winner of the election for the Isoko federal constituency and ordered a new election in Enwhe ward 09 of that district.

Mr. Dickson Ebegbare, the Social Democratic Party candidate for the Isoko federal constituency, had gone to the tribunal, claiming that Ukohdiko had not been lawfully elected and that no election had taken place in the contested ward 09.

The election of Waive was overturned by the tribunal because of a lack of publication of his credentials.

Waive, however, refused to accept the verdict and declared his intent to challenge it to a higher court, arguing that the legal basis for his disqualification did not exist in Nigeria. The Court Fires Politicians from the APC and the Delta PDP
