On Wednesday, an aircraft from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) participating in Operation Hadin Kai bombed a weapons truck and killed eight terrorists in the hamlet of Baranga in the Borno province.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, stated in a statement issued from Abuja that the strike was carried out when the troops were conducting an armed reconnaissance mission in the region.
According to Gabkwet, the airstrike was part of an ongoing offensive against North East terrorist holdouts.
He explained that two armed terrorists on a motorcycle were being followed along an active track when a chance to strike presented itself.
According to Gabkwet, the terrorists hid in the bushes when they spotted the plane, and then a gun truck with eight of them came out of nowhere and sped off in an attempt to outrun the plane.
The gun truck was then attacked and destroyed, putting an end to the terrorist threat.
The remaining terrorists in the Northeast are still trying to hide from the Nigerian military and other security forces by hiding in dense forests and greenery.
It’s evident that the AFN is dedicated to making it impossible for terrorists to go where they like and target innocent people, and this strike is further proof of that, he said. (NAN)
