Any serving corps member who is seen engaging in any kind of electoral malpractice during the general elections of next year would be subject to legal repercussions, according to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The NYSC’s acting director-general, Mrs. Christy Uba, issued a warning that any corps member found breaking the rules of engagement will face legal action from the organization.
While on a working visit to the temporary orientation camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, she made the following statement.
She went on to say that over the years, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, and the NYSC had worked together to jointly play a key part in the country’s electoral process.
The acting Director-General further stated that, in accordance with the 2022 Electoral Act, no corps member who was found guilty of any electoral offense would be released unpunished.
She clarified that election participation was not required.
“You will be treated like any other Nigerian if you break the law. There is no protection for corps members; if you transport a voting box for anyone, you will be sent to prison immediately, she continued.
