Patrice Evra, a former left-back for Manchester United, offered his opinion on the Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo GOAT (Greatest Of All Footballer) controversy.
Evra said that he wants people to put an end to the argument between the Argentine captain and Ronaldo and claimed that Messi would become the GOAT in the public’s eyes if he wins the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Many people believe that Messi’s victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup put an end to the GOAT discussion he had with Ronaldo.
At the Lusail Stadium on Sunday, Argentina upset France in the championship game thanks to a brace from the Paris Saint-Germain forward.
Evra, though, thinks that it is unfair to compare Messi to Ronaldo and that supporters should cease doing so.
By winning the World Cup, Messi will no longer be in Diego Armando Maradona’s shadow, according to Evra’s statement to Betfair.
“The Argentina supporters will always remember Maradona, but Messi is the one now; in their eyes, he is the finest player in the world.
“I can’t claim Cristiano Ronaldo is the best; I can’t say he is. Because everyone has a right to an opinion and because everyone is unique regardless of what you do or win, I ask that this discussion be put to an end.
But because winning the World Cup is the ultimate honor, Messi will be regarded as the GOAT in the public’s eyes.
