Three medical students from Ahmadu Bello University, Niger Delta University, and the University of Uyo died in a boat accident that occurred after they arrived in Calabar for the University of Calabar’s annual health week.
Governor Otu was represented by Mr. Elvert Ayambem, Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, who claimed that in addition to the resort undergoing some significant repairs, they had also increased security by keeping a gunboat on standby around-the-clock.
“What we have accomplished here is really amazing, as you can see, and I am particularly pleased with the presence of security provided by the navy and police.
“To inhabitants of Cross River, please contribute value and not damage. Learn to accept government rules which are for the interest of everyone,” he urged. “A lot has been invested in this resort.
According to Mr. Ojoi Ekpenyong, managing director of the Cross River Tourism Bureau, he was thrilled with the resort’s rebranding because it now has clean surroundings, 24-hour electricity, and ready service providers.
He urged people from inside and beyond the state to go to the resort and take advantage of what it has to offer in a calm and secure setting.
There is hope that the renamed resort will return to its original state, according to one of the fun-seekers, Dr. Fidelia Esu, who came with her family.
“Back then, there was always activity at the resort; individuals were earning money by offering a variety of services.
“I still think that by returning to our rural villages and starting tourist initiatives there, we can increase tourism in Cross River.
Esu stated, “There are many things in our local areas that can draw tourists to the state; this will go a long way in bringing development to our rural communities.
