The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) suspended governor, Godwin Emefiele, had his arrest and imprisonment overturned by a High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday.
Emefiele petitioned the sitting judge, Bello Kawu, for the injunction, and the judge agreed.
Emefiele was removed from his position as CBN governor on June 9 after being suspended by President Bola Tinubu, who replaced him with Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate.
The following day, the DSS officially announced that Emefiele had been taken into jail for “some investigative reasons.”
Since then, DSS has continued to hold Emefiele in jail, maintaining that it has a legal basis for doing so.
The DSS announced on Thursday that it has filed criminal charges against Emefiele in response to a judgement from the FCT High Court.
