Gov. Badaru says the CBN is not prepared to redesign the Naira

Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has taken the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to task over the continued scarcity of redesigned Naira notes in commercial banks.

The Governor made the announcement through the State Commissioner for Finance, Babangida Umar Gantsa, in response to the difficulties individuals are experiencing when depositing or withdrawing money.

He accused the CBN of withholding the redesigned Naira notes, causing residents undue hardship.

“We even met with bank managers, who verified that the CBN is not providing them with enough funds.

“One bank manager told us that the CBN only paid him N2 million.

“In one particular ATM, I counted over 250 people, people are sleeping there and some are spending hours of their labor only to withdraw money for their requirements. Banks are not loading enough money into ATMs because the CBN is not providing them with funds.

“I believe the CBN is not prepared for this activity. They should return to the drawing board and do what is necessary to alleviate the misery of the common man.”

Babangida added that, “even the naira swap and ten days extension announced by the CBN is going to be defeated.”

According to the kuryaloaded, only ten of the state’s 27 local governments have working banks.

The rural communities are in untold hardship as they lack access to any financial institution for exchanging their old note with new ones.
