Gov. Emmanuel signs the N700 billion 2023 budget and raises the teacher retirement age

On Friday, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, gave his approval to the 2023 appropriation law that had already been ratified by the State House of Assembly.

The overall cost of the law is N700 billion, of which N344 billion is recurring spending and N356 billion is capital spending.

This information was included in a press release that Mr. Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, signed following a meeting of the full State executive.

The announcement also said that the Governor has approved raising the retirement age for educators working in public schools from 60 to 65 years old, with effect beginning on December 30, 2022.

According to the press statement, N675 million would be released for the payment of 2019 leave grants to teachers working for the government after receiving permission.

Additionally, it stated that the Governor authorized the remediation of the dump site at Uyo Village Road and landfill management and delegated responsibility for carrying it out to the Akwa ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency and the Ministry of Environment and Solid Minerals.
