which also urges the Rivers community to safeguard government projects.
Communities in Rivers state have been urged by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to safeguard any government projects situated in their vicinity for the benefit of all.
Native residents of the Omerelu community in the Ikwerre local government area of the state have been urged by the NDDC, through Chief Tony Okocha, the state’s representative on the board, to prevent the vandalization of government property. This is in an effort to encourage the development of similar initiatives.
During Wednesday’s commissioning of the hybrid solar light that the Commission had provided to the Omerelu community, Okocha delivered the charge.
A member of the NDDC board mentioned the solar light project as one of their policies. They said that the community of Omerelu would see a boom in economic activity and that crime would go down the drain as a result of the project’s electrification.
The third solar street light installed by the NDDC board and commissioned by him, after Bane in Khanna local government area and Rumuigbo in obio/ Akpor, is Omerelu solar light, he claims.
Among the solar street lights that the current NDDC board has built, the Omrelu solar light is the best.
While he was pleased that the contractor had finished the task according to plan, he also praised the omerelu community for working with them.
In his remarks, Rt Hon. Monday Ogbuya, who represents Delta state on the NDDC board and was present during the solar street light’s commissioning, clarified that the residents of omerelu had not requested the project from the NDDC board. Ogbuya went on to say that Tony Okocha, a colleague of his, decided to gift the solar street light to the omerelu community out of love for them.
Amadi, Chief of Omopi area in the Omerelu Community, had previously thanked Hon. Tony Okocha on behalf of the Omerelu community for donating solar streetlights to the area.
According to Chief Amadi, the omerelu village faces security risks due to its proximity to Ikwerre local government area and its shared boundary with Imo State. However, the installation of solar street lights has alleviated this problem, allowing the community to sleep peacefully.
On this occasion, he reached out to the National Development and Investment Corporation (NDDC) to fund the building of a community town hall, the connection of omerelu to the national grid, and the empowerment of women and adolescents through the provision of various loans and skills programs.
At the same time, the NDDC team was welcomed by HRH, Eze Engr. Ben Ugo, who expressed gratitude to Tony Okocha for bringing the project to the community during their visit to the palace.
Chief Elder Livinus Didia, a former registrar of Rumuolumeni’s Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and a cabinet member of Eze Ugo’s, confirmed that the Omerelu community is pleased with the NDDC board that Hon.
