Hon. Frank Chinasa, the Labour Party candidate for the Bende Federal Constituency election in Abia State, has finally relinquished the seat to Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House.
While revealing this to reporters in Abuja on Friday, the LP candidate said he made the choice because of his compassion for the area.
According to kuryaloaded, Kalu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared the winner of the poll on February 25 after receiving 10,020 out of the 22,308 total votes.
Unhappy with the election results, the LP candidate then filed a petition with the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, in an effort to have Kalu’s victory overturned.
But after making a decision, the tribunal this Thursday maintained the Deputy Speaker’s designation as the election’s victor.
Although there were rumors that the Labour Party’s nominee would ask the court of appeal to overturn the tribunal’s decision, Chinasa informed journalists on Friday that he has decided to put an end to any future legal actions and pledged his devotion to Kalu.
He asserted that the Deputy Speaker shares his commitment to provide the people of Bende with effective representation, while reiterating the fact that Kalu is still his brother and friend.
I am here to let the world know that I am no longer interested in pursuing this case outside of the tribunal, he declared. Simply put, this indicates that I have made the decision to drop the case.
“Kalu and I have a long history together that cannot be damaged by the momentary political actions of the present. We are first and foremost Bende brothers.
We have a strong friendship and intrinsically value providing accurate portrayal of our people.
