In Katsina, we killed 54 bandits and lost 5 officers

From January to December 2022, the Katsina State Police Command said that despite losing five of its officers in the effort to reestablish peace and order in the state’s bandit-prone areas, it had killed 54 bandits and freed 122 abducted victims.

The command made 1,102 arrests during the time period under review out of 705 reported cases, 989 of which are still being prosecuted.

At the state command’s end-of-year press conference on Tuesday, Katsina State Commissioner of Police Shehu Nadada informed reporters of this.

According to a breakdown of the arrests provided by the police commissioner, 266 suspects were detained in relation to rape and other unnatural offenses, 241 in relation to banditry, and 177 in relation to armed robbery, among other offenses.

71 alleged vandals and 21 suspected drug dealers and suppliers to bandits were also detained throughout the time frame.

Additionally, Nadada reported that its agents freed 277 kidnapped people and found 35 weapons, including 14 AK-47 rifles, 21 locally produced weaponry, and 81 rounds of 76.2mm ammunition.

In a similar vein, the Commissioner of Police for Katsina State reported that 1,092 domestic animals, including 727 cows and 370 sheep and goats, had been found.
