Joe Biden, the president of the United States, expressed shock at the passing of legendary Brazilian football player Pele.
The footballer, who was 82 years old and was widely regarded as the greatest player of all time, passed away on Thursday.
Numerous soccer fans all around the world have kept up their condolences for the legendary footballer who was the best player during his career and a three-time World Cup champion.
In response, Biden said on his Facebook page that Pelé had broken several records before Messi and Ronaldo became the finest players in the world today.
“Before there was Messi, Ronaldo there was Pelé,” he wrote. The youngest World Cup winner ever, Pelé captured Brazil’s first title in 1958 at the age of seventeen.
In 1962 and 1970, he went on to win two more World Cups, making him the only player in history to have won three World Cup trophies.
“Pelé’s climb from humble beginnings to soccer icon is a story of what is possible for a sport that unites the world like no other,” the author writes.
The US president also expressed his condolences to the deceased person’s family, letting them know that his thoughts were with them.
The deceased, who was born in 1940, made his Santos debut in 1956 at the age of just 15 years old.
