According to the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s successor as governor of Kogi State will be chosen from among the population of active teachers.
At a press conference on Saturday, Comr. Joel Salifu, the Kogi State Chairman of NUT, made this announcement.
Salifu observed that teachers in the State were now more knowledgeable about selecting a leader who will represent their interests and prevent them from appearing as street beggars.
Before the general election, the NUT boss urged the teachers to go get their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), saying that this was the only way they could decide their future and guarantee better and improved working conditions.
“We will choose who joins us in the State and becomes our leader. The figures are at hand. Our past experiences have adequately equipped us to choose Kogi State’s next governor in 2023, especially given the size of our population. With the help of the general election in 2023, the voices of teachers in the State would be heard clearly, he promised.
He argued that despite numerous difficulties from both the current and previous administrations, the year 2023 still stands out as a turning point for teachers in the State.
