This was the first female winner’s explanation for why she was still in a relationship with her ex, Ike Onyema, in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
Remember that Mercy and Ike were a couple on the show, but many fans were disappointed when their relationship ended after the show.
Mercy talked about her experience and said she wouldn’t have pursued a connection with Ike if she had realized she had such a vast fan base.
The reality TV personality claimed that even when their relationship wasn’t working, she couldn’t leave Ike because of the money.
“Relationships on BBNaija are the biggest swindle. It originally struck me as unique. In fact, I wouldn’t have bothered getting connected with Ike if I had known that I was a strong housemate and that people appreciated me for who I am.
We flowed with it, so I wouldn’t say it was a strategy, but we still had to put on a good face for people who aren’t even dating. If things doesn’t work out, you can move on, but in my case I had to stay because I needed the money and couldn’t leave.
