Rio Ferdinand, a star at Manchester United, has admitted that more than ten years ago, he came close to persuading Croatian captain Luka Modric to go for the Red Devils rather than Real Madrid.

Ferdinand claimed that he had a conversation with Modric about moving to Old Trafford while the midfielder was still with Tottenham Hotspur, but he asserted that the board of Man United had already approved a contract with Shinji Kagawa of Borussia Dortmund.

In the summer of 2012, Modric moved from Tottenham to Real Madrid.

He continued to enjoy a successful career at Los Blancos, earning the Ballon d’Or and five UEFA Champions League championships.

“Because that is what I used to do, I spoke to him [Luka Modric] before he joined Real Madrid. Before I retired, I was Rio’s player agent, Ferdinand claimed on his FIVE YouTube channel.

‘Are you leaving [Tottenham Hotspur]?’ I asked. and he responded, “Yeah, I suppose I’m going to go,” but he was unsure of his exact destination at the time.

He responded, “Yeah,” when I added, “Listen, you’ve got to come to United.”

“However, it didn’t happen. When I spoke with David Gill, the former chief executive of Manchester United, Ferguson, at the time, had already reached an understanding with Shinji Kagawa.
