The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is running a candidate for governor named Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. If elected, the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has stated that his preferred successor would perform better than him in office due to the recent actualization of his administration’s fight for Enugu to join the league of states enjoying oil producing status in Nigeria.
The oil production status of Enugu, according to Governor Ugwuanyi, is one of his administration’s achievements that will greatly benefit the socioeconomic development of the State. He added: “I’m delighted that Dr. Mbah will have a large resources to perform better than me if elected.”
The governor continued by saying that a father hopes his son outperforms him in life.
Speaking in the EXCO Chamber of the Government House in Enugu upon receiving Master Innocent Chikelu Ugwu, a 17-year-old native of Enugu State and student of Christ The King College, Gwagwalada, Abuja, who scored 359 points to place second overall in the country’s 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), Governor Ugwuanyi noted that despite the difficulties the state has faced, Enugu State
Master Ugwu, a resident of Umabor, Eha Alumona in the Nsukka Local Government Area and the son of Hon. Charles Ugwu, a former representative for the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, placed second in the county in the UTME with three points less than the winner from Ekiti State, who earned 362 points.
Governor Ugwuanyi praised Master Ugwu for making Enugu State proud and said that his administration had accomplished great things in a number of development areas because it had faithfully and purposefully placed the state in God’s hands, emphasizing that “all these beautiful things are coming from God.”
The governor explained that when his administration took office, the nation’s economy was in a recession, and Enugu State was receiving less federal funding than the previous administration did. The governor then described the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a serious setback in the growth and development of the entire world, the #EndSars protests, and yet another recession.
In addition to the #EndSars protests, the COVID-19 pandemic, and other historical events, Ugwuanyi, the only governor of Enugu State to experience two economic recessions in his five years in office, reaffirmed that God had been compassionate and kind to the state throughout these difficulties.
The governor informed the student (Ugwu) that it was a meritorious privilege for him to be seated and honored at the EXCO Chamber of the Government House, Enugu, and that it was a great blessing that an indigene of the state came in second in the UTME.
This is a stepping stone for you, Governor Ugwuanyi said, emphasizing that Ugwu’s success was the product of hard effort and advising him to keep going in that direction. I have no doubt that you will continue to get stronger. You will continue to be in good health, my son. Hard work is what got you here. Please accept my congratulations as Enugu State’s governor. The state government will honor that with compensation.
When introducing the UTME second runner-up to Governor Ugwuanyi, the winner’s father, Hon. Ugwu, expressed gratitude on behalf of the family for the governor’s invitation to speak with them and expressed admiration for their son’s success on the national exam.
In his message of goodwill, the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, linked Master Ugwu’s success to Governor Ugwuanyi’s prophecy that “Enugu State is in God’s hands.”
The young man in front of us, according to Aroh, “has done fantastically well and has established the names of his family and Enugu State on the national map.”
“Your Excellency, it is our wish that in the remaining days of your days as the Governor of Enugu State, God will everyday show you the manifestation that He is a covenant-keeping God,” he implored Governor Ugwuanyi as he entrusted the state to His care.
