At the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abeokuta city on Friday, two of the three witnesses called by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opted for cutlasses for oath-taking, leading to some uncertainty.
Adeeso Abiodun and Akinyemi Oluwanifemi testified as witnesses. Meanwhile, it was revealed that the third witness was the son of the State PDP senatorial leader for women.
In addition, much to the dismay of the tribunal’s audience, all three witnesses shared virtually identical testimony because they were from the same town of Sagamu in the State’s East Senatorial District.
A dispute arose at first because some people were opposed to the change, and because the defense attorneys for the respondents urged that the witnesses take the oath properly by invoking Ogun, the Yoruba god of iron.
After great debate, the tribunal agreed to let the witnesses swear on whatever object they wanted.
