On Wednesday, the Zamfara Police Command reported neutralizing one alleged bandit and detaining five others for kidnapping, livestock rustling, and possession of weapons and ammunition.
SP Mohammed Shehu, a police public relations officer with the Zamfara State Command, released a statement on Facebook.
Gusau, according to the police, successfully repulsed a bandit attack, and the suspects were found to be in possession of two AK-47 rifles, 104 rounds of live ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, and a number of charms.
He claimed that after being detained, Umaru Buba and Babuga Manu both admitted to engaging in kidnapping and cattle rustling in a number of states, including Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and other areas in the North.
Other suspects, Abu Umaru and Isah Ayub, who resided in the ancient Doka Village in the Gusau LGA, were also detained, according to him. They also had a working motorcycle and a sharp knife on them.
“During the course of the inquiry, the suspect admitted to being a member of a bandit gang that was led by Malam Tukur in Mada, Wonaka, Yandoto, and Tsafe.
The statement continued, “He further admitted that, on multiple instances, they stopped the Gusau-Tsafe-Yankara Road and kidnapped an indeterminate number of persons, taking them to their enclave where their family paid ransom before their release.
