Arc. Ezekiel Nya-Etok, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for governor in Akwa Ibom State, has listed young unemployment and rural underdevelopment as the state’s two main concerns and pledged to address them if elected.
At a press conference held over the weekend in Uyo, Nyaetok claimed to have made the discovery while out canvassing for votes.
He said it was heartbreaking to hear young people in rural areas complain about poverty, unemployment, and other problems, and he noted that many young people were not motivated to pursue an education because there were no jobs available to them after investing time and money in attending school.
Regarding his degree of readiness for the March 2023 elections, the Guber candidate claimed that while some people were “busy having jamboree,” he had spoken to everyone he could, particularly those at the grassroots, about his potential and capability.
Nya-Etok identified himself as a strategic striker working covertly while expressing hope to win the election in 2023, but he omitted to identify the candidates “performing the jamboree.”
He claimed, “If you go outside, you’ll see that youth unemployment in the villages is frightening. A huge time bomb is ticking if you hear what’s happening in the villages. In the villages, youth unemployment is very high.
“That is Akwa Ibom State’s biggest issue. I will be on the right track if I construct a development policy and governance instrument today. Underdevelopment in rural areas is the second.
“I will be your future governor because I hit with precision and never miss. Because of this, I am able to continue working without a position and you have heard about me every year for the past 20 years.
“By the grace of God, I will win the elections. I am not attempting to garner popularity.”
