Senior service chiefs have until July 3 to resign, according to military headquarter. The military high command has allowed officers in the newly appointed services until July 3, 2023, to voluntarily retire.
According to the Kuryaloaded, about 100 top commanders in the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy, including generals, brigadiers-general, air vice marshals, and admirals, may be forced to retire following the nomination of new service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu.
Major General Christopher Musa, the new Chief of Defence Staff, is a member of the 38 Regular Course, as is the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar.
There are, however, top commanders who are 37 and 38 years old.
Senior officers are reluctant to receive commands from their subordinates, according to military custom.
However, according to a memo signed on behalf of the CDS by Major General Y Yahaya on June 26, the affected officers must offer their resignation letter before the states state in order to preserve and uphold the tenets of the military profession.”It would be recalled that the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recently appointed new CDS and Service Chiefs on June 19, 2023,” the document stated. To preserve and uphold the military profession’s ideals of hierarchy and service discipline, it is critical that all officers whose officer cadet courses run seniority higher than that of the current Service Chiefs withdraw from the Service.
As a result, I am directed to humbly request that Services direct all officers with commission seniority above NDA Regular Course 39 to submit applications for voluntary departure from service with immediate effect. I’d like to add that impacted officers must submit their applications to their respective Service Headquarters by Monday, July 3rd.
