Serbian basketball player loses kidney during World Cup

After suffering an injury at the Basketball World Cup, Serbia’s Borisa Simanic underwent surgery to remove a damaged kidney.

Simanic underwent surgery in a hospital in Manila after being struck by a South Sudan player’s elbow on August 30 while playing pool.

He had a second surgery on September 3 to remove one of his kidneys due to complications from the first procedure, the team said on Monday.

Dragan Radovanovic, the team physician for Serbia, stated that they “expect and wish that after this operation, the postoperative course will go smoothly.”
