Political commentator Shehu Sani has said that as long as terrorists are killing farmers in Nigeria, the country will never be able to achieve food security.
He bemoaned that the country’s food supply was threatened because robbers were extracting levies from the farming communities.
Sani tweeted, “You cannot have food security in a country when farmers are massacred by terrorists and rural communities are forced to pay levies to Bandits.
“The falsehood of those rice pyramids and the ineffectiveness of sealing the land borders were both exposed by the emergency declaration on food security.”
You may remember that Bola Tinubu, the president, proclaimed a food emergency.
This was done to help ease the hardships people in Nigeria were facing after the subsidy on gasoline was eliminated.
Tinubu made the call after consulting widely with parties along the food and agriculture value chain, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, Customs, Farmers Association, and important financial experts.
