Nigeria will join the international community in commemorating Global Data Privacy Day 2023 on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
It is a day set aside to raise awareness of fundamental rights and freedoms pertaining to citizens’ privacy in the data processing ecosystem.
In keeping with the global goal of raising data privacy awareness, the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau, NDPB, will host a National Privacy Week, which will include a week of focused attention on data subjects’ rights, capacity building on data governance, and data breach remediation, among other things.
Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, will kick off National Privacy Week with a press conference on Global Data Privacy Day.
National Privacy Week also marks the one-year anniversary of the Bureau’s inception.
The NDPB, led by Dr. Vincent Olatunji as National Commissioner and CEO, will establish an Accelerated Data Breach Remediation section to resolve data subject petitions during National Privacy Week.
