Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, chastised the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on Thursday over the January 31 deadline for the old naira notes.
Emefiele’s policies, according to Primate Ayodele, will devastate Nigeria’s economy, and the poor masses will bear the brunt of the currency redesign and accompanying deadline.
According to Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele’s media aide, the misery caused by the currency redesign will continue in the next government since the wrecked economy will be transmitted to the new leadership.
“Emefiele has wrecked the country’s economy, and neither the poor nor the rich will enjoy this regime until it ends,” he said.
“As I already stated, the naira makeover will have no tangible impact. The naira redesign program is impacting the poor masses, while they are unaware of it, and the ruined economy will be transmitted to the incoming government.
“Nigeria has only recently begun to suffer; this adversity will go a long way. The money will generate suffering since the public will suffer more as a result of the currency transition.”
He emphasized that redesigning the naira was bad advice at the wrong moment since it would not combat corruption, as politicians will always find a way.
Emefiele announced the redesign of the N200, N500, and N1000 denominations in December 2022.
The CBN governor stated that the previous naira notes would no longer be legal tender in Nigeria on January 31, 2023.
