Peter Obi, a presidential contender for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, took what his close allies called “private visits” to high-profile PDP leaders yesterday, and he has now stated his motivations.
Atiku Abubakar, a former PDP presidential candidate and vice president; Bukola Saraki, a former Senate president; and Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, were among those who paid a visit.
However, in light of Obi’s meeting with these prominent figures, the major opposition parties in Nigeria are now considering their strategy for the next 2027 federal elections.

Keep in mind that Atiku initially shared the news of Obi’s arrival on his Twitter account, X. He let his supporters know that the former LP candidate stopped over to see him. It was always a pleasure to receive him, Atiku said.
In the 2019 presidential election, Peter Obi—formerly the governor of Anambra State—was Atiku’s running mate on the PDP ticket.
But they were defeated by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and their former president, Muhammadu Buhari.
However, the specifics of yesterday’s conversations have not been disclosed.
The necessity for the opposition to unite in preparation for 2027 was a prominent theme, according to Vanguard’s findings.
In multiple forums, Atiku had repeatedly stressed that the opposition must come together. He claims this is still the country’s sole option for escaping the austerity measures enforced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government under President Ahmed Tinubu.
Paul Ibe, Atiku’s media adviser, stated, “The meeting was held behind closed doors” when contacted. However, we have not been informed.
