On the occasion of his 84th birthday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his best wishes to Chief Aremo Olusegun Osoba, a renowned journalist, elder statesman, and former governor of Ogun State.
Tinubu, in a statement released by Presidential Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy Dele Alake on Saturday, praised Osoba’s life and accomplishments, saying that younger generations in Nigeria should take inspiration from them.
He hoped the previous governor would live a long life so that he and others may keep learning from his wealth of experience.
Aremo Olusegun Osoba is a distinguished journalist, former governor of Ogun State, and elder statesman; today, I celebrate his 84th birthday with his family, friends, and other allies.
The life of Chief Osoba is replete with remarkable accomplishments. A trailblazing journalist began his career in 1964 as a trainee reporter for the Daily Times of Nigeria and eventually became the paper’s Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief.
In Nigeria, he was known as a fervent advocate for democracy and progressive good government. It’s no surprise that Ogun State voters twice chose him as governor; he’s still a powerful figure in the All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s ruling party.
The President remarked that Chief Osoba is “a highly respected elder statesman” from whom many in the political class, young and old, seek guidance and counseling.
On July 15, 1939, Osoba was born in Osogbo, Osun State.
