Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has responded to the murder of Hon. Ike Okolo, President General of the Obosi Community, on January 2, 2023.

Okolo was shot dead in his automobile by alleged cultists in the Obosi neighborhood. According to reports, another individual was also killed, but it was difficult to identify him because his face was crushed.

Several towns in Anambra State had experienced a string of cult-related attacks for some years, but the level of violence appears to have risen over the holiday season.

One man was shot dead on January 2 in Awka; two people are rumored to have been shot dead in Ifite; and four men were shot dead on January 1 in Nodu, Okpuno village, while they were enjoying the entertainment of their host, Obi Maduka, in his compound.

Onyiebo Okoye, Kenechukwu Okeke, Jude Ebenezar, and Obinna Maduka were the identities of the victims.

Soludo denounced the occurrences in a news release sent by the governor’s press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime.

The deaths that occurred in Obosi and Okpuno, in the council areas of Idemili North and Awka South, respectively, as a result of a cult-related feud between competing factions, have been denounced by the state’s governor, professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

“Governor Soludo strongly condemns these senseless killings and has vowed that those responsible, even if they have fled the city, would be caught and dealt with harshly. He emphasized that they will be sought out and subject to the full force of the law.

He claimed that thanks to a new system of traffic control put in place by the government during the holiday season, Anambra Youth Volunteers and the State traffic management agency worked 24 hours a day at all the key intersections to control traffic, Anambra had the finest Christmas in decades.

“Monday, which was traditionally spent at home, saw extensive outdoor activity as the State erupted with events everywhere.

The cult gangs that engaged in the fight today will unquestionably be located and dealt with severely in accordance with the law, the governor continued.
