Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom has urged eligible voters not to support politicians who have criminal tendencies or who thrive on lying in the run-up to the 2023 general elections.
Governor Ortom appealed for interreligious cooperation to foster peace and harmonious cohabitation in a goodwill letter distributed by his chief press secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur.
If the interreligious discourse is maintained, he claimed, periodic disputes between and among different religions would never arise again.
The Governor then exhorted the nation’s Christians to continue fervently praying to the All-Powerful God to solve the myriad of security, socioeconomic, and political problems the country is currently facing.
“The holiness of the birth of Jesus Christ, which is the cause for the celebration, is to re-enact the spirit of love, peace, good neighborliness, and forgiveness which our saviour preached,” he said, urging people not to sacrifice the true meaning of the holiday on the altar of fun.
In particular, Governor Ortom praised the residents of Benue State for their fortitude, ongoing support, and collaboration since 2015, when he was first elected as Governor of the State, and he urged them to remain firm in the face of the difficulties ahead.
Governor Ortom urged the citizens of the State and Nigeria to “vote in leaders who will be devoted to the security of people and promote the well-being and prosperity of the country” in the upcoming general elections. The only way to save Nigeria from the bad leadership that the outgoing APC administration has led us to is through this.
“In order to elect leaders who have been tried and true, we must look past party political lines in the elections of 2023. Not those who have criminal tendencies and make a living off of lying, untruth, and deceit,” he said.
Then he urged everyone in Nigeria to exercise caution during this festive season, work with the security forces, and report any suspicious activity by criminal elements in or near their neighborhoods, particularly by terrorists who were invading our communities and killing and uprooting our people from their ancestral homes.
He was nevertheless confident that the upcoming year will bring prosperity to all citizens since the government was resolved to remove all obstacles to efficient administration.
The governor reaffirmed his promise to leave Benue State in better shape than when he arrived.
