Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has said that before Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Everton, he warned Erling Haaland about getting himself in trouble.
Midway through the first half, Haaland lunged at Vitaliy Mykolenko and was given a yellow card.
The Norwegian forward then left James Tarkowski on the field holding the ball with a flailing arm.
Guardiola avoided criticizing referee Andy Madley after the game but suggested that City’s players don’t receive adequate protection from officials.
“Haaland received a (merited) yellow card. He had some resentment over the initial treatment of his ankle (by Godfrey).
“He responded nicely when I cautioned him that we couldn’t play 10 against 11.
“Three or four fouls on Jack Grealish against Leeds, and nothing occurred.
“I don’t desire to be friends with the referees. I don’t care. Guardiola remarked, “They perform their jobs, everything is good.
Haaland scored his 21st Premier League goal to give City the lead, but Damarai Gray’s spectacular strike from inside the area gave Everton the equalizer.
