Gabby Agbonlahor, a former captain of Aston Villa, has endorsed Manchester United to contend for the English Premier League (EPL) championship this year.
Agbonlahor added that Erik ten Hag’s team can easily finish in the top four spots on the Premier League table this season and that he would choose Man United’s best XI over Chelsea’s best XI.
Man United is presently ranked fifth in the Premier League standings.
With a game remaining, the Red Devils are only four points behind Newcastle United in second place.
If they want to reach league leaders Arsenal, who are 11 points ahead of the Old Trafford club, they have a long way to go.
Agbonlahor told talkSPORT, “I think they [Man United] should be challenging higher than that [EPL top-four].”
“In my opinion, Manchester United ought to contend for the [EPL] championship.
“When everyone is well, I look at that team. You have David de Gea, Diogo Dalot has been playing well, Raphael Varane, and Lisandro Martinez, who recently won the World Cup.
“We are all aware of Varane’s career accomplishments; he is a top defender when he plays. Left-back Luke Shaw Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Christian Eriksen make up your midfield. That’s creative thinking.
“You have top-tier wingers Marcus Rashford and Antony. Although Antony still has a lot to learn, he will improve. Anthony Martial is the next.
“Those eleven players there ought to be easily in the top four. I prefer their starting lineup over Chelsea’s.
