Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a star for Liverpool, has acknowledged that the team is still having a hard time adjusting to life without Sadio Mane, a former Senegalese attacker.
Following the Reds’ shocking loss to Brentford in the Premier League on Monday night, he made this statement.
The England international lamented the futility of his goal in the 3-1 loss.
At the Gtech Community Stadium, goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, and Ibrahima Konate helped Brentford defeat Liverpool.
Only a few minutes into the second half, Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the visitors’ consolation goal.
According to Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mane’s impact, who moved for Bayern Munich last summer, is missed by Liverpool.
“I’ve watched Sadio and Mo [Salah] play that position for years, and one thing that they have both done outstandingly well is deliver goals for the team,” he said to LFCTV after playing at left-wing against Brentford.
“When Darwin [Nunez] is playing down the middle, it’s a little different…
Bobby [Roberto Firmino] typically dips a little bit deeper and fills that half-space when he plays that role.
It was wonderful to sort of get that chance and take it tonight, but it’s a shame it doesn’t mean anything, because that’s what I’ve been missing the last few games, that true goal threat.
