Because of health issues, Governor Godwin Emefiele will be unable to brief the House of Representatives, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Aisha Ahmad, a deputy governor, will speak on behalf of the CBN governor to brief the House, the apex bank stated in a letter to the House on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, the governor is out of the nation for a business trip and is also taking care of some health issues. Due to the urgency of the briefing, a committee of governors led by Aisha Ahmad, deputy governor for financial system stability, is ready to brief the House, according to the letter. He is, therefore, unable to attend.
While discussing the letter, Segun Odebunmi, a member of the House, voiced his opposition to the appearance of a representative. Ahmad ought to speak to a committee, he said.
The representative should be permitted to brief the House, according to deputy speaker Idris Wase.
Recalling that Emefiele had ignored the previous two summonses, the House passed a new resolution on Tuesday demanding that he appear before the legislators.
