OBORADO — On Monday, June 3, there will be widespread strikes by Organized Labour in opposition to a proposed minimum wage increase.
In light of the labor delegation’s walkout from last Tuesday’s meeting, during which it accused government negotiators of being unserious, the tripartite committee on a new national minimum wage (NNMW) will resume today after an abrupt adjournment.

At the same time, the state governors are being accused of conspiring against the federal government in order to delay the current negotiation.
The union’s bargaining team left Tuesday’s committee meeting for the second time in two weeks, this time after the federal government raised its offer to N60,000 from N57,000 on May 22.
After receiving offers of N48,000 and N54,000 from the government and the Organized Private Sector, respectively, in contrast to their demand of N615,000, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its counterpart, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), stormed out of the tripartite committee meeting on May 15.
