Adeleke urges ongoing recognition of the Nigerian military

The sacrifices made by the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces must be consistently recognized, according to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, if Nigeria is to continue existing.

This was said by Adeleke in his speech at the unveiling of the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblems on Thursday at the Osun State Secretariat in Abere.

Adeleke noted that the occasion was also to express gratitude to them for making the ultimate sacrifice, noting that the unveiling of the insignia provided yet another opportunity to honor and recall the sacrifices of the armed services members.

“This event is another significant time to honor and remember the sacrifices of those in the armed forces,” he said.

“Our purpose in being here is to express our thanks to the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“Government must continue to recognize the military’s contributions to the country’s existence.”

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to enhancing its partnership with the military and emphasized that service members, veterans, and their families would receive appreciation for their patriotic service.

In honor of their contribution to the nation, the government has recommitted to ensuring the welfare of service members, veterans, and their families.

Oladipo Abioye Peter, the Osun Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, pleaded with Governor Adeleke to attend to the ongoing requests on the growth of the Nigerian Legion in the state earlier in his welcome speech.

“I would want to take this opportunity to remind our State Patron and the Governor of Osun State of our long-standing petitions regarding the approval of Monthly Subvention to State Headquarters and Area offices of Nigerian Legion in the State.

“Issuance of a mandatory letter of support, as well as full involvement by Local Governments and LCDAs in the State during the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration and as appropriate.

“Provision of official vehicle to state headquarters to facilitate our legal transportation to National Seminars, Retreats, Meetings, etc., as well as to inter-State and State’s assignments.

“Allow me to add that, while traveling to National call, we are constantly at the mercy of our neighboring States, especially Oyo State, and that the aforementioned demands are enjoyed by our counterparts in the South-West in particular, States, and in other States of the Federation.”
