Bolanle Raheem: Lagos murderer cop’s identity is hidden by police, but image goes viral

The identify of the policeman who killed Bolanle Raheem on Sunday in Lagos is being kept a secret by the force.

On Christmas Day in the state’s Ajah region, the victim—a lawyer—was fatally murdered in front of her family.

An image going viral depicts the offender, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, or ASP, and a man who is allegedly the victim’s husband leaning against a car with both hands on his head.

Despite issuing separate statements, neither the Inspector-General of Police nor the Lagos State Police Command named the shooter.

Nigerians are incensed that the security organization had a history of defending the reputations of prominent personnel who had been detained for murder, extortion, and other crimes.

IGP Usman Baba referred to the shooting committed by the officer working out of the Ajiwe Police Station as regrettable.

Baba, who commanded a prompt investigation and prosecution, expressed sympathy to the deceased’s family, friends, and coworkers.

He promised justice and issued a warning to the Force’s personnel, asking them to carry out their tasks with professionalism and consideration for others.

The officer and the other members of his squad have been brought into jail, according to Lagos Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alabi.

The State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba, has been given the matter to look into.

In a statement, Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin recalled that just three weeks prior, at the same site, Gafaru Buraimoh had been shot and killed by an inspector who was also employed by Ajiwe Police Station.

The Nigeria Police Force would review its rules of engagement in an effort to stop such unnecessary nasty situations, said Hundeyin, who called the violation of standard operating procedures (SOP) and rules of engagement “embarrassing.”
