Eight gas stations in Osun State were shut down by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) on Thursday for allegedly selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for more than the government-approved pump price.
Mr. Kunle Adeyemo, the state’s NMDPRA coordinator, made this statement following the organization’s routine surveillance of gas stations in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to Adeyemo, the surveillance was done to inform the public that the Federal Government-approved pump price for gasoline had not altered.
He stated that the surveillance operation will continue every day until all state-licensed marketers returned to the PMS price set by the government.
“We are out mostly because fuel prices are becoming unpredictable, and we are attempting to inform the public that there is a set price for petroleum that the government has not altered.
The official pricing, which is between N179 and N180 per litre, must be carefully followed by every filling station in the state, he added.
According to Adeyemo, the impacted gas stations were shut down for charging more than the legal pump price.
He continued by saying that the agency would keep working nonstop to prevent fuel marketers from defrauding the general public.
