Governor Ben Ayade has ordered the cancellation of a portion of the Calabar Carnival in response to the alleged mayhem that broke out in the city, which may have resulted in up to ten fatalities and more than 20 injuries.

The governor also ordered an immediate probe into the event in a prompt press release signed by his chief press secretary and media adviser, Barrister Christian ita.

While expressing sympathy to the accident victims and their families, the governor ordered an immediate investigation to determine how the driver managed to get past security barriers and access roads that were off-limits to the general public.

According to Ita, the Governor ordered that the motorcycle parade held in memory of the accident victims end right now.

While pledging to make sure the offender is apprehended and prosecuted, Governor Ayade called for restraint.

Allegedly, a careless driver struck a crowd who had gathered along the Carnival route to witness the bikers march.

According to Ita, Governor Ayade is saddened and devastated by the occurrence and has ordered security authorities to find the evading driver.
