Drambi Vandi, the officer who shot Bolanle Raheem, has been ordered to be immediately suspended by Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba.
The Ajah Divisional Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command hosted the Ajiwe Police Station, where the Assistant Superintendent of Police was assigned.
After halting Bolanle’s car on Sunday, Vandi shot the pregnant lawyer. The dead was on their way home after Christmas Day shopping with her family.
The force’s public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Wednesday that the IGP was awaiting the incident’s comprehensive investigation.
According to the spokeswoman, the recommendation for the officer’s suspension is consistent with the Force’s internal disciplinary procedures.
Adejobi pointed out that the change will foster the climate required for the judicial processes to uphold justice in the case without obstruction.
The PRO further stated that “the suspension is without prejudice to the presumption of innocence provided for by the Constitution in favor of the officer.”
The police asked for calm and reassured the populace that they would work to see that justice was served.
