Barrister Okoi Obono-Obla, a former advisor to President Muhammadu Buhari, has urged Governor Bassey Otu to take tougher and more decisive action to improve Cross River State.
Obono-Obla released a statement on Sunday praising the governor for terminating the disputed Cally Air arrangement with Aero Contractors signed by former governor Ben Ayade.
He claimed that the people are clamoring for more decisions even though he has been adopting what appear to be the appropriate judgments in his first month as governor as a method of establishing a foundation for him to affect change in the entire structure of the State’s administrative and political governance.
I urge him to keep making the kinds of strong, bold, and courageous choices that bring about the kind of transformation in State government that so many of us hope for and pray for.
I applaud his “bold decision to cancel the opaque Cally Air Concession agreement with Aero Contractors” and his “constitution of a Committee to take inventory of concessionaire agreements entered with various concessionaires to manage industries belonging to the State government.”
As a means of redressing the perceived injustice and marginalization of particular communities, he also urged Otu to reform and reposition the ruling party, APC.
He claimed that the State party executive committee’s recent guidelines, in which wards were instructed to nominate potential candidates for positions and empowerment, had been “hijacked.”
For the governor and the party, he warns, “this is dangerous if he does not act immediately and decisively.”
