Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has discussed the roles that Christopher Nkunku can play for the Blues’ starting lineup.
Manager refutes reports that France international will be deployed mostly in a striking role.
Despite giving up the first goal in Philadelphia during the 2023 Summer Series, Chelsea came back to defeat Brighton 4-3.
For the Blues, Nkunku scored early on to tie the game, and then Mykhailo Mudryk, Conor Gallagher, and Nicolas Jackson scored in a span of 11 minutes to give Chelsea a three-goal advantage. Joao Pedro and Deniz Undav scored late on for the visitors as consolation goals.
For Chelsea’s opening match, Nkunku began up top with Carney Chukwuemeka with Raheem Sterling and Ian Maatsen on the wing positions.
Pochettino said on Chelsea TV, “Well, I think Nkunku can play in many situations.
“For the purposes of these two games, we employ him as a striker. However, he can also play as an offensive midfielder, a No.10, a No.8, or even on the side.
But he’s a great player who keeps getting better.
